A highly publicized disclosure of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church occurred on August 14, 2018, when a Pennsylvania officials released a landmark grand jury report spanning two years of investigative work that identified more than 300 “predator priests” who allegedly molested more than 1,000 children in six dioceses. The grand jury says it believes the “real number” of abused children might be “in the thousands” since some records were lost and victims were afraid to come forward. It also accuses church leaders of taking steps to cover up the abuse. The report emerged from one of the nation’s most exhaustive investigations of clergy sexual abuse.  READ THE FULL REPORT HERE.

Pope Francis, facing sexual abuse crises in several other besides this nation, wrote an unprecedented letter on Monday, August 20, 2018, to all Catholics on Monday, asking each one of them to help root out “this culture of death” and vowing there would be no more coverups.

The Vatican said it was the first time a pope had written to all 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide about sexual abuse. Past letters on sexual abuse scandals have been addressed to bishops and faithful of individual countries. In his letter, the pope referred to the suffering endured by minors due to sexual abuse at the hands of a “significant number of clerics and consecrated persons.”

As Tom Gjelten wrote on August 18, 2018:  “Sixteen years after an investigation in Boston highlighted the dimensions of the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic priesthood, the financial and reputational cost to the Catholic church continues to grow.”

In an article by Bryan Fischer on August 20, 2018, Purge of gay priests would empty parishes, Fischer had this to say:

“The problem began in the 1960’s when the Church, unable to recruit enough heterosexual priests to fill its ranks, began to lower its standards and turn a blind eye toward homosexuals who wanted to enter its seminaries.

Catholic observers are aware that the necessary purge will create an immediate clerical crisis in the Church. Conservative Catholic Michael Hichborn insists, correctly in my view, that there must be a “complete and thorough removal of all homosexual clergymen from the Church.” But he admits “it’s going to be difficult and will likely result in a very serious priest shortage.”    But it must be done. Settlements the Church has already made to pacify the abused have already cost the church $3 billion, a toll that unquestionably will rise significantly.”

Thorner opines

It was incorrect to assume that after all the problems the Catholic Church has had in the past with perverted priests, they’d be doing a better job of winnowing out those young seminarians most likely to sully its reputation and cost them hundreds of millions of dollars in future lawsuits.  It was understood that the occasional pedophile would slip through, just as the occasional sadist is going to make it through the police academy and onto the force, but I assumed the Church had learned a terribly expensive lesson.  Nevertheless, as a non-Catholic with many Catholic friends, I had no idea that things were going to blow up the way they have in Pennsylvania where it is reported that a thousand, perhaps several thousand, people, have accused upwards of 300 priests of engaging in criminal sexual activity with them when they were youngsters.

I have always regarded cops who used the authority of their badge and uniform to mistreat people as the scum of the earth, but a species even lower than those misfits are those who misuse the authority of a turn-around collar to victimize children.

Once again, as in the not too distant past, the Church has shown its moral culpability.  Instead of removing the degenerates from their parishes and handing them over to the authorities, they shielded them.

It seems that Cardinal Wuerl, the former archbishop of Pittsburgh and now the archbishop of Washington, D.C., who regularly shows up on Fox to weigh in charmingly on moral questions, has played a major role in providing cover for the predator clerical priests. To those who will predictably rush to defend the Church by pointing out that these charges have not been proven in a court of law, I’ll point out that neither were the charges against Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, Tavis Smiley, John Conyers, Matt Lauer, Russell Simmons, Mark Halperin and Kevin Spacey.

I’m equally certain it will be argued that every organization has its bad apples, but they’re in the minority.  That argument goes by the wayside once you understand that the Church protected them.

I do understand that parishioners are wont to say that they believe in the religion, not necessarily the men who run it.  But if the men who interact with the public are moral degenerates and the ones above them in the hierarchy are more interested in covering their butts than they are in protecting the most vulnerable in their flock, doesn’t that say something is awfully amiss about the religion?

To me, it is as absurd as those who insist we shouldn’t judge Islam by the actions of radicals, even though the radicals find their inspiration in the Quran and never fail to praise their god while blowing up a school bus or slitting the throat of an infidel.

It shouldn’t be enough for the Church to pay financial restitution to those whose lives have been destroyed.  It is obvious that limiting priesthood to eunuchs, a practice dating back to its medieval hiring practice, is not working.  The Orthodox Church does permit priests to marry if married before they are ordained.   May we also keep in mind that the Catholic Church has branch offices in all 50 states and not just in Pennsylvania.

Alliance of Catholic Church and Left

Amid the troubling allegations in a grand jury report out this week that 1,000 or more children suffered sexual abuse by some 300 Pennsylvania-area priests over the past 70 years, Pope Raises Eyebrows with Pick for This Important Vatican Post, there are new worries about Pope Francis’ decision to consecrate a Portuguese bishop who holds unorthodox views.  José Tolentino Mendonça, a Portuguese Catholic priest and poet, claims Jesus didn’t “establish rules.”  According to reporting from LifeSiteNews, this bishop is also promoting the theology of a dissenting nun who defends the legalization of abortion and homosexual marriage.

Pope Francis should be accepting the resignation of Cardinal Wuerl that was offered two years ago when Wuerl became 75, as all Catholic bishops are expected to do, but the Pope did not accept it at that time. This is the bare minimum response to the pedophile priest/bishop scandals.  Instead, we get still another liberal bishop being appointed to high a position in the Vatican.  Now you know why Jesus said: “And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.”  Power corrupts when it comes to mere humans, no matter how exalted their titles.

Even if Francis is unexpectedly removed by death, like John Paul I was despite seemingly good health, the next Pope will be elected by bishops that Francis appointed or elected him in the first place.  Francis is the result of a system of an all-powerful Pope that has been building since the rise of Islam knocked out the Catholic Church’s main competition.   Even the Protestant Reformation wasn’t as great a threat to Catholic power as 10 million home churches that are converting the world today, especially Catholics in Latin America, Africa, Asia and even here in North America.   The alliance between the Left and the Catholic church must be maintained because otherwise the institutional Catholic Church will continue to implode.

The Catholic Church simply cannot take actions against the Left when it comes to gay rights and abortion that go beyond ineffective rhetoric. Wuerl is staying put because he is a lynch pin of the Left’s strategy in this year’s elections in America.  He and his friends must be kept in power to keep Catholic conservatives from being effective in changing the American political status quo.

Evangelicals and the Republican Party have plenty of scandals and corruption.  I welcome every investigator who really wants to find the truth to report them; however, Democrats and Catholics so often receive almost a total pass from the media.

As a non-Catholic there should be great concern, regardless of an individual’s religious affiliation, over the homosexual, Communist penetration of the Catholic Church.  What will be done by men or, more importantly, by God, is the question.  Meanwhile, it is unbelievable for Mexican Cardinal Sergio Obseo Rivera to have said that abuse victims should be “ashamed” to accuse “men of the Church.”

Why are our elected officials not adequately protecting our borders?  Why do we allow a single person to cross into the United States who has not gone through our stated immigration procedures?

There is a process to follow, and our elected officials should not allow a single illegal immigrant entry through the back door. Those who show up at border crossings without proper paperwork should be denied entry until they have gone through an established vetting process and then required to wait their turn.  To do otherwise allows these undocumented individuals to take the place of others who have honored our laws and procedures by applying and waiting their turn.  We are losing control by allowing so many immigrants into our nation who have not been thoroughly or properly vetted and/or have no desire to assimilate.This is also a disservice to our nation’s people.

Our flawed visa system

We likewise have a visa problem. According to Department of Homeland Security data released on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, more than 600,000 foreign travelers — including visas granted to students — who legally entered the United States in 2017 overstayed their visas and remained in the country by the end of the year.  This marks the second straight year when more than 600,000 visitors stayed past the expiration of their visa, turning them into undocumented immigrants at risk of deportation.

In response to the terrorist attacks in 2001 and how four of the terrorists being visa over stayers, the 9/11 Commission recommended a biometric entry/exit system which Congress approved and streamlined in 2004. Since then, Congress has appropriated funds for the it six times, and yet we have no system in place.  This is inexcusable.  A biometric entry/exit system is a must to keep better tabs on those entering the country and reduce the number of Visa over stayers.

The scourge of human traffickers

There is ample proof that many who use the backdoor method of entry are those who would be red flagged if they were forced to use the required procedure.  A more thorough investigation by our officials would discover they have been accused or convicted of crimes in their country of origin as drug dealers, smugglers, gang members, and/or human traffickers.  These people are clever.  A common ploy is to claim to be a family at the border, when the truth is men are smuggling young girls and women into America for the highly profitable crime of prostitution.

Thousands of young women who have been forced into prostitution once they arrive in America eventually become pregnant as victims of lose border restrictions. When that happens, these young girls are forced to have an abortion by their “Handlers” and are taken to one of our many Planned Parenthood facilities for the “procedure.”   These clinics are safe for “handlers” because no questions are asked.  Handlers claim the victim (woman) is their girlfriend and no attempt is made to ask questions that might allow the young woman to share the truth.  It is not unusual for these “trapped” young prostitutes to end up with multiple pregnancies, which are quickly terminated each time by an abortion.

The humane thing to do would be to force all who enter illegally to go through the proper government verification service.  Even so, too many judges and Democrat leaders have more compassion for foreigners, even those who come illegally through our borders, than they do in protecting our citizens and/or the chance that some young girls and women may be brought by traffickers.   A recent case in point is a San Diego judge who once again froze family deportations, wanting to allow separated migrant children to pursue their own asylum claims in the United States, rather than be deported with their parents.  What are the ages of these children, and how does this judge know whether some of these young girls are being “trafficked?”

Southern CA/Arizona as entry for unprecedented number of illegals

An unprecedented number of foreigners have been allowed entry at our southern California/Arizona borders for decades, with the excuse these “illegal immigrants” were necessary to America because they were the only ones who would pick our strawberries or do other jobs Americans would not take.  Consumers were warned that without these foreign workers strawberries would cost 10 times as much.   In retrospect that would have been a bargain.  Although no exact figures exist, we know those here illegally often commit crimes, and the cost to incarcerate them is shocking.  When caught in a crime they are often given probation, thanks to our compassionate judges, skillful lawyers, and pro-immigration groups who represent them.

Supporters of keeping U.S. immigration at high levels argue, with apparently convincing evidence, that immigrants as a group are no more crime-prone than the native-born.  On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, an illegal immigrant was charged with first degree murder in the disappearance and death of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts. Yet such an appraisal invites an age-old question, what’s wrong with this picture?  The explanation is that that much of the crime is not being reported.  As immigrants are often victims of crimes committed by fellow immigrants, they are often too scared, bound by custom, or fearful of deportation to report the crime.  Also, FBI’s crime figures reflect state and local crime reports, which often omit any mention of an offender’s national identity.

A study concluded a few years ago shows one inmate in a California prison for one-year costs $71,000.00.  Some estimate the cost today is now even higher.  As to the welfare programs illegals benefit from, the shocking national cost of illegal immigrants to Americans is estimated at a whopping $134,863,455,364 a year.  Total taxes paid by these illegals is $18,968,857,700.  That means illegal aliens are costing our nation $116 billion a year.

Steven A. Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies, believes that  a border wall would be a bargain.  If a border wall prevented 160,000 to 200,000 illegal crossings (excluding descendants) in the next 10 years it would be enough to pay for the estimated $12 to $15 billion costs of the wall.  Even Cato Agrees: A Border Wall Can Pay for Itself.

The Opioid crisis involves porous Mexican border

The fentanyl that has taken over American’s drug market, begins in China, flows through Mexico and into the U.S.  This pipeline funnels 80 percent of the drug through the San Diego border before dispersing throughout the U.S.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2016 fentanyl-type drugs were responsible for killing nearly 20,000 people in this nation, and now the figure is much higher.  Fentanyl is so potent that the equivalent of a few grains of table salt can be fatal.  Mexican drug cartels often take bulk pure fentanyl from China and then cut it with any number of substances, from heroin to cocaine to methamphetamine to cheap fillers such as sugar and acetaminophen.  First developed in 1960 as a powerful painkiller and surgery anesthetic without the side effect of nausea, fentanyl is 100 times more potent than morphine and up to 50 times stronger than heroin.

Few would deny that our judicial and immigration systems are broken.  We need to speak up and demand our long-established immigration laws be strictly enforced and that chain migration, citizen birth and the lottery systems be abandoned to protect our own citizens from those who come here with an agenda to deliberately harm us. Most Democrats like it that way as a ploy to swell their voter base — finding ways to justify protecting those here illegally and making it harder to deport them, even when they commit crimes in this nation — as do many establishment Republicans who are beholden to the Business Round Table, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Koch Brothers for a cheap and constant supply off labor.  And why wouldn’t immigrants crash our borders with little fear of retribution?   Those who know they would never be able to gain entrance legally, due to past or current crimes, will sneak in illegally or travel through specific borders where there are few or no barriers impede them.  They also have nothing to lose in trying.  If caught they are simply sent back to try again, and most succeed. Without proper vetting or required paperwork criminals are entering our nation and traveling freely throughout our country, as has been happening for decades.

Court hearing not respected by illegals

One of the major unspoken issues regarding immigration policy is how illegals skip court hearings, disappear into the shadows, and the government has no idea where they are.  Whatever the laws on the books, even the most basic regulations are completely unobserved.  Accordingly, whenever you hear congressmen assuring you that illegals will have to jump through certain regulatory hoops to get citizenship or legal status, you shouldn’t believe them, as the regulations they are supposed to obey now don’t.

As reported by the Trump administration on August 16, 2018, on any given day nearly 20 illegal immigrant children skip their deportation hearings and disappear into the shadows, putting contours on the difficulty the government faces in trying to stop the flow and protect the children.  Moreover, more than 200,000 of the juveniles, referred to as Unaccompanied Alien Children, have been released into communities in recent years and remain there, many ignoring deportation orders.

This nation’s liberal welfare apparatus for illegals

Our welfare apparatus is more liberal than that of any of the European democracies.  It has reached the point that the rights and privileges accorded to citizens, illegal aliens and legal immigrants are nearly the same, and citizenship has become nearly meaningless. If the Democrats have their way, ICE and borders would be eliminated which would result in unlimited immigration and the ruining of America beyond redemption.  It is not surprising that our Founders were fervent immigration restrictionists. They had just fought a bloody, protracted and expensive war to establish a nation built upon a new paradigm and were determined to protect what they had achieved from the influence of foreign populations with different political systems and cultural practices. In 1790, nearly two centuries after the first settlers arrived, just 0.3% of the population were identified as other than descendants of Northern European peoples, aside from the African slaves. Becoming a citizen in the early days was quite difficult. A person had to reside in the US for 14 years and declare their intent 5 years prior to applying for naturalization.

While we are a compassionate people and may have sympathy for those who want a better life in America, we should not have any misplaced sympathy for those who ignore our immigration laws and procedures to enter illegally.  Unless “we the people” speak out against this, and insist everyone must have the proper identification, go through the required procedures and processing, and qualify to enter the U.S.A. with proper documentation, these practices will continue and worsen every year.

Americans need to understand that too many legal immigrants from one region, country, or ethnicity which is opposes our historical norms cripples our country’s ability to have a future that stays faithful to our past. In this way, unchecked immigration can literally and quickly alter the course of America.

Americans need to understand that too many legal immigrants from one region, country, or ethnicity which is opposes our historical norms cripples our country’s ability to have a future that stays faithful to our past. In this way, unchecked immigration can literally and quickly alter the course of America.

How can God continue to bless America if the Christian church remains silent on issues that oppose God’s Word?  Atheists and agnostics have no trouble blatantly telling their supporters to vote for specific candidates who oppose Christian values, but many churches won’t even have voter registration tables or Christian voter guides as encouragement for Christians to engage in the process of electing our leaders. Is it any wonder why we are losing our Christian nation given one immoral law after another?

Our opponents are fully engaged in this battle, while Christians largely ignore the growing dangers to our families and the Christian church. Those who founded our country and protected our founders’ values through the centuries understood the need for a nation to stay engaged.  That was most often accomplished when a majority of citizens believed in Christian-Judea principles and fought against that which was harmful, if not evil.

Religion and our Founding Father

All or nearly all who signed the Declaration of Independence were Christians who were very familiar with the Bible.  Among the singers were quite a few ministers.  George Washington and John Adams, our first two presidents, understood the need for this new country to have strong connections to the church and to Biblical values.  The main author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, admired Christ very much but did not believe in any of His miracles.  Jefferson did, however, believe Christians made the best citizens.  For it was their faith in God and the biblical instructions they embraced that demanded morality and respect for authority.

Following is the most well-known and quoted statement from the Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

A large percentage of America’s leaders have identified themselves as Christian since this nation was founded, some more devout than others.  Nevertheless, each one of them knew the value and importance Christians played in forming our country through their embrace of the very values necessary to keep America morally strong and thus able to achieve greatness.

Decline of Christian churches

Morality breeds morality, just as evil begets evil. Our leaders, having chosen wisely through the years since its founding, embraced the Christian faith as well as biblical standards. America prospered.  Until the 1960’s, prayer and saluting the American flag were a part of every American student’s day at school.  It wasn’t long after Leftist Supreme Court Justices ruled that prayers and the 10 Commandments must be taken down from all our schools and public places that school curriculum began to change, as did our City officials and politicians.  Concurrently, as immoral laws were introduced and passed, immorality and crime increased exponentially in America.

It was inevitable that over time even the Christian church would begin to decline, and it has at unprecedented rates.  This decline began in Europe where Christianity once flourished. Europe has for decades seen a serious decline, which has resulted in the rising of a non-Christian Europe.  Beautiful, magnificent churches that once thrived in European cities are now being turned into restaurants, stores, and even counseling centers as churches close due to lack of attendance.  Most of the remaining churches in Europe are used only for weddings and funerals and perhaps for Christmas and Easter.

Tragic is that large numbers of young adults in twelve European countries have no faith. Czechs are the least religious.  70% of young people in the UK identify as having no religion.  Meanwhile, the most non-religious country is Poland, where over 50% of young adults define themselves as non-religious, followed by Lithuania where only 25% still identify as Christian. While Gallup polls and other statisticians claim about 40 percent of America’s population (on average) has attended church for the past 70 years, a different research currently paints a rather grim picture of how many Christians in Americans today actually attend a local church on any given Sunday. When we allowed people to govern us that promote immorality and discourage moral laws, what did we expect?  It is all about who is making the laws and that is due to who “we the people” elect to represent us.  It is therefore urgent for the American church to engage in the political process if we do not want to end up like Europe.  A nation’s people, elected officials, and laws all determine the direction a nation will take on issues affecting morality.

Evangelicals as Trump’s base of support in 2016

Was Trump’s amazing election victory God’s last chance for America?  It certainly seemed to be a miracle that a non-politician could/would win with so many established opponents in the race.  And did Christians largely vote for Donald?  They did, and many believe it was the Christian voter turnout that helped elect “The Donald” in 2016.  They appreciated his goals and hoped he would keep his promises when so many   politicians have failed to do so in the past.

Evangelicals emerged as one of Donald Trump’s most ardent bases of support in 2016.  Nearly four out of five (79%) voted for Trump, compared to 18 percent siding with Hillary Clinton, providing the Republican candidate with better than a four-to-one margin.

It was not necessarily Trump that Christians wanted, but they saw in Trump, a non-politician and one not beholden to anyone, someone they hoped would not be the average politician who rarely kept campaign promises. There must be consequences if a politician votes the opposite of his/her campaign promises. Ideally politicians should be voted out in the next election, but are we paying enough attention to know the voting record of our own legislators?

After 18 months, most Christians are impressed with President Trump, despite the non-stop negativity directed at him by the mainstream media. It speaks volumes that the same media that protected President Obama now does its best to malign President Trump.

Ralph Reed gave an interesting interview to Bari Weiss on June 20, 2018, explaining why Trump has not lost the Evangelical vote.  During the 2016 election Mr. Reed was instrumental in getting out the evangelical vote for Donald Trump.  His group, which has some 1.8 members, says it will spend $20 million to turn out evangelical voters in the November midterm election.

As Reed said:  “Evangelicals confronted a less than perfect choice in 2016, as they frankly do in almost every election, and they acted as responsible citizens in voting not for the lesser evil but for the greater good.”   Does Trump sometimes say and do things Reed wishes he would not?  He answered “Yes, and so has every other politician I have ever worked with.”

An important aspect of one’s character is whether politicians hold firm to their promises. Trump has done so on issues that matter deeply to evangelicals and millions of other citizens of faith. They include but are not limited to the following:

  • Signing into law the most sweeping anti-human trafficking legislation in a decade.
  • Embassy moved to Jerusalem.
  • The scuttling of the Iran deal.
  • The appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
  • Defending Israel.
  • Protecting life and religious freedom.
  • Religious task force created to protect pro-life Christians.

Our role as Christians defined

We have learned a great deal in the last year; enough to know Trump was right.  There was a need to “make America great again”, and it continues despite resistance from the Democrat Party, some leaders in his own party, The Deep State, many in the mainstream media, and even billionaires like Socialist George Soros, who is pouring millions of dollars into his umbrella groups for the express purpose of maligning Trump and his administration.

Some consider it a type of treason to finance groups with the sole purpose of destroying a duly elected president of the United States. Other find it fair and the duty of the opposition; however, the opposition has gone over the line of what is acceptable in its use of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose express purpose it is to find something about Trump that could result in removing a duly elected president from office.

The November mid-elections are perhaps the most important elections in the history of this nation, for if Democrats succeed in retaking the House and/or the Senate, not only would there be a call to impeach Trump, but all that Trump has accomplished would be in danger of being reversed, to be replaced by a Socialist agenda.

All Americans should be determined to keep the Republic our fore-founders bequeathed to us so many years ago. We should be exceedingly grateful to all who have worked hard to make America the great country we all enjoy today.  It has served Americans quite well.

May we all be guardians of our Republic in the decade ahead, so we are not remembered as a generation who failed to protect our nation from those who now seem determined to fashion this nation into one of their own liking.

Gun collectors around the world treasure original documents and boxes, even if the actual firearms are not available. In the US, these items have a brisk trade, and add considerably to the value of antique and modern firearms alike. In Europe and other countries, the documents may be the only thing permitted.

The State Department, under President Obama, banned the shipment of manuals which contained a detailed drawing and parts list. These are not engineering drawings with dimensions and specifications, rather just an exploded diagram with descriptions. The State Department did this under provisions of the UN Small Arms Treaty, which was soundly rejected by the US Senate. If declared or discovered in shipment, “offending” documents were routinely destroyed.
